2007 SYSCO SUMMER SERIES

RACE OF NOTICE

INVITATION:  SYSCO extends an invitation to all sailboat skippers of level or one design fleets to compete in this series on the Columbia River.

DESCRIPTION:  A series of evening races with one race scheduled each night.

ELIGIBILITY AND INSTRUCTIONS:  A minimum of three boats will be required to constitute a level fleet or one design class. PHRF ratings are not required. Reference the SYSCO Fleet List contained in this OCSA Race Book for current designations of level fleets and one design subclasses. Races shall be governed by the current ISAF Racing Rules Of Sailing including the national prescriptions of US Sailing, as modified by the OCSA Sailing Instructions, applicable level or one design rules, and the supplemental instructions of this notice.

DATES AND TIMES:

TUESDAYS, June 5, 12, 19, 26 and July 10:

Level fleets A, B, C, E, and F, including one design subclasses within the level fleets where possible.

THURSDAYS, June 7, 14, 21, 28 and July 12:

Level fleets D, H, and Cruising Fleet including one design subclasses within the level fleets where possible.

First Warning Signal 1830 for all races

REGISTRATION:  Use the OCSA Race Entry Form and mail with your fee to:

Indicate fleet or class preference (level or one design) on entry. Level or one design entrants are expected to confirm a sufficient number of boats to form a fleet or class before entry. Entries will not be accepted after 72 hours prior to the first race, unless accompanied by a $10 late fee.  No on-the-water entries will be accepted.  Last-minute notification by e-mail/phone is acceptable no later than Friday before the first race.  Entry form and entry fees for last-minute notifications must be received by the Race Captain prior to Sunday of the 2nd week of racing or the boat will no longer be scored for the series.

FEES: 

$30.00 for PIYA affiliated yacht club members, $35.00 for all others.  Make checks payable to SYSCO.

Entry fees are not required of SYSCO members; however, SYSCO members must register, and are subject to the late entry fee provisions.  SYSCO/US Sailing members may request a $2.00 rebate from the Club Treasurer at any general meeting.

SYSCO SUMMER SERIES

SUPPLEMENTAL SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

CLASS DIVISIONS:  The Race Committee will display level fleets and one design subclasses as consistent with the SYSCO Fleet List and entries received.

COURSES:  Courses will be displayed by the Race Committee and may include marks designated by the 2007 OCSA Course Charts. To facilitate timely completion, more than one course may be displayed for each race and classes divided between courses.

SCORING:  The best four of five scheduled races will be scored. If four or fewer races are completed, all races will be scored. The Low-Point Scoring System of the Racing Rules of Sailing shall apply except as modified above.

TROPHIES:  Trophies will be presented at the annual SYSCO Awards Banquet. Trophies will be awarded, based on the number of boats starting, and as follows:

3 Boats - 1 Trophy
5 Boats - 2 Trophies
8 Boats - 3 Trophies
11 Boats - 4 Trophies

Classes having fewer than three starting boats will not be awarded trophies.

PROTESTS:  Protesting boats must indicate their intention to protest to the Race Committee at the end of the race.  Protests must meet the requirements of the ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing and be delivered to the Race Committee or faxed in care of Steve Moshofsky at 503-526-9696 within two hours after completion of the last race of each day.  Protest forms are available on the Web at www.sailpdx.com .
